The Ipoustéguy Gallery
From 1998 onwards, Ipoustéguy renewed his strong links with the Meuse region. In 2001, a cultural centre named “Ipoustéguy” was inaugurated in the village of Doulcon, next to Dun-sur-Meuse – the artist’s birthplace. It is neither a museum nor a mausoleum, but a living space, open to artists and visitors alike.
The “Galerie Ipoustéguy”: a revelation for first-time visitors. A luminous space in the heart of the Val Dunois Cultural Center, where you can discover one of the twentieth century’s leading sculptors.
Deeply attached to his native region, Ipoustéguy chose to return to his childhood home at the end of his life. The local authorities (led by the Communauté de Communes and the Conseil Général) then launched a bold gamble: to create an art center in the heart of a rural area. This was to be the “Centre culturel Ipoustéguy.” However, Ipoustéguy refused to be the only artist showcased there, and opened the exhibition rooms to other arts and artists.
From the Gallery, the visit extends to the Church of Dun-Haut: in this 14th-century setting, two mystical works in bronze and marble await—in silence and clarity. A moving climax for the casual visitor and the Ipoustéguy enthusiast alike.
